For the second week of quizzes I have written questions by themes, linking across all aspects of the exams (relationships, death, power and anger). There are 2 lots of 4 quizzes with different text combinations (Macbeth, Jekyll and Hyde, An Inspector Calls, Conflict Poetry AND Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Conflict Poetry) and the answers on the following slide. All questions are interleaved and each quiz is worth 10 marks - I plan to use them simply as quick starters in the run up to the exams, which are immediately peer-assessed so students know where the gaps are in their knowledge. Please note there are four other quizzes available for week one in my other resources.

I’ve put this together for a low ability year 10 group. They have done an overview of ACC and whilst most teachers get students to read it over the summer, I have decided to adapt an abridged version, and then get students to complete checkpoint activities after each reduced chapter.

Each AO is broken down into three simple clouds for pupils to easily see what each AO involves. Each AO also has a focus for pupils to try and remember key skills. E.g AO1: Respond AO2: Analyse AO3: Evaluate AO4: Relate.

Short chunked extracts which enable students to work their way through the questions all on one page - to save photocopying! Themes given are housing charities, children’s bedrooms and sleeping rough/homlessness. Questions 2-5 are provided, but no true or false for Q1 to save on space.

A display which includes A sign for the graveyard 6 grave stones, each with 6 accompanying bats with synonyms for the “dead words”. The words are: happy sad cold hot small big The editable version is included, but as I have used certain fonts, it might not work. I’ve also included the .pdf version.

Two image quotations from each poem in the anthology. Quotations are picked on their flexibility: what might link to other quotations, spread across a range of themes, and support students' detailed analysis.

A lesson which aids students in building their ambitious vocabulary with a specific focus on describing colour. Includes an image to match 3 colour thesaurus palettes, and a Powerpoint which models how to improve colour description with some more vocabulary to build description.

Some well known Shakespeare phrases in pretty fonts/ speech bubbles. Used for display purposes and to emphasise the relevance of his words today.

Encourages pupils to take a step-by-step approach to analysing leaflets (rather than a game of spot the device!). Also reminds them to explore how effective each of the elements of the leaflet are. A publisher file.

Words for students to use in extended analytical writing as shown on the image. Nice and simple and can be displayed in small spaces!

The pack has eight key ways Golding uses the island (microcosm, personified as beast, as paradise/hell etc) and has three key quotes to explore for each point. Quotes have page references. A simple way to get pupils analysing short quotes and coming up with personal responses to a thematic question.

This work has been created to teach students in school during the school lockdown. It is designed to build cultural capital and to not overlap with our curriculum which is still being set for all students. There are 3 sessions/lessons on Midas and then 3 sessions/lessons on Icarus. The sessions follow a similar pattern: 1 - Predict the story, read it, storyboard it 2- Answer comprehension/analyse quotations, learn relevant vocabulary, write an analysis vocabulary 3- Summarise the story, discuss the moral, apply to modern day life. Attached are a .pdf and .doc of the 8 page booklet needed for all 6 sessions, the powerpoint which teachers can use, and the stories themselves.

SMILE -Structure, Meaning, Imagery, Language, Effect. The titles are in the display with a three questions to encourage pupils to think about each feature (Language: Are there any patterns of language? Are any devices or techniques used? Would different words achieve the same effect?).
